The Centre for the Study of Conflict was an interdisciplinary research centre within the School of History, Philosophy and Politics at the University of Ulster at Coleraine. The CSC was established in 1977 and carried out research into aspects of the Northern Ireland conflict until 2000. The main objectives of the Centre were to: promote and encourage research on the conflict; provide a forum for cross disciplinary and comparative studies; make an informed and impartial contribution to the public discussion of the conflict; develop a general and theoretical understanding of conflict from a strong empirical base; to relate research findings to policy and practice; and develop a comparative programme of research on ethnic conflict on an international basis. The CSC carried out primary research, organised conferences and seminars, provided facilities for visiting scholars, and wrote a wide range of reports, books and other publications.
