This group was formed by the majority of members from the Ulster Vanguard who broke with William Craig in 1977. The UUUM was led by Ernest Baird. The UUUM was a part of the United Ulster Unionist Council (UUUC) during the early part of 1977. The UUUM argued for the foundation of a single Unionist party. When this aim was seen to be unachievable the UUUM formed a new political party, the United Ulster Unionist Party (UUUP) and contested the 1977 district council elections. The UUUP obtained 3.2 per cent of the first preference votes in this election. (See also: United Ulster Unionist Party; UUUP.)
